About Mel, Brand & Design ConsultantMel grew up in Connecticut, the oldest daughter of two doctors. While her parents encouraged math and science, Mel was often found doodling Disney® characters on her notebooks or snuggled up in her room with a good book.
Throughout high school Mel loved art classes and writing workshops. In college, at the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, Mel took one class in graphic design and quickly changed her major – she had found a career that combined her favorite things!
Mel now has over ten years of experience in graphic design, branding and advertising. She has worked with agencies in CT and Boston, and is currently an art director with Munroe Creative Partners in New York City. Her clients range from non-profits, academic institutions, financial services, real estate, B2B, and more. Her favorite part of the job is mentoring her younger designers and helping push their creativity.
Her most recent role is to her rambunctious one-year-old son, Macky, and wife to her Syracuse-loving husband, David.
Helping design branding for The PrettyPout was one of the first freelance projects Mel took on after having her son, and after three months of maternity leave where she was away from the business. Being involved in ThePrettyPout revived her own creative spirit and reminded her how much she loves being a designer. It also helped her gain more confidence managing a new work/life/baby balance.
As a designer, Mel loves strong type and bright colors. As a mom, she loves being active and silly with her family.
Mel's Top Values
Mel's dad used to drop her her at school every day and say, "Have fun, do your best and cheer for your teammates." Her top three values are:
- Have fun -- Anything you love is worth doing!
- Do your best -- She was raised to worked hard and put her best effort into everything she does. She wants both her co-workers and son to learn by her example.
- Cheer for your teammates -- Being surrounded by a good support system and positive people is so important. She will always be your biggest cheerleader! :)
One Thing Mel Does For Herself, No Matter How Hectic Life Gets
Having a baby and working full time means there isn't a lot of "me time"…more recently she has been trying to make time to exercise or get moving. Just a quick walk helps and fresh air helps clear her head.
